Description
Amazon nuts, also known as Brazil nuts, are the seeds collected from an impressive and long-lived tree that grows wild in the forests of South America. Unlike the fruit nut that we all know as it is widely spread and cultivated in Europe, this plant is not cultivated and its fruits are harvested only when, once ripe, they fall to the ground. Although they are seeds and not actual fruits, these nuts are actually classified as dried fruit. In fact, they contain all the beneficial virtues of shelled fruit and are healthy and energizing foods. They are excellent as a snack to break hunger and as a quick remineralizer after sporting activity. Like all dried fruit, these nuts boast a good content of vitamins and minerals but should also be consumed sparingly as they are very caloric; however, they also contain precious fats for the health of the heart and arteries such as oleic acid and linoleic acid: for this reason they also contribute to regulating cholesterol levels in the blood. Unlike European walnuts, Amazonian walnuts contain a very high percentage of selenium. They can therefore integrate this trace element in case of deficiency and contribute to the correct functioning of the thyroid and blood circulation. Selenium also plays an important role in immune system processes and therefore helps to reduce the development of infections. With the same energy and fat value, Amazon nuts also contain a greater quantity of minerals and in particular calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. They are also richer in vitamin E and are composed of fair quantities of group B vitamins. Amazon walnuts perform an antioxidant and protective function on the skin and counteract the action of free radicals, thus preventing cellular aging. Thanks to the presence of vitamin B1 they are also useful for counteracting the sense of tiredness and fatigue and for providing the body with the right dose of daily energy.
