Shelled Broad beans

Description

Vicia Faba – Broad beans come from an ancient plant, originating from Persia or Northern Africa. Its first traces date back to the Bronze and Iron Ages. They constitute the first legume seeds consumed by man. The typical food product in rural Italy. In ancient times broad beans were used not only as a legume but, after being transformed into flour, in the preparation of bread, focaccia and polenta also. Already in the early 1800s, literary works were found (e.g. “La Fisica Appula” by P.F. Michelangelo Manicone from 1806) which attest how the territory of San Paolo di Civitate is particularly suitable for the cultivation of broad beans. It remains a widely used and versatile legume for the preparation of many dishes. The nutritional contents are reported in the “nutritional contents” section. Di Nunzio broad beans are grown in Puglia in the upper part of “Tavoliere della Daunia” area, particularly in the lands surrounding the municipality of San Paolo di Civitate.
